The Malcolm Randall Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Gainesville, Florida, was established in 1967 and provides a full range of comprehensive healthcare to U.S. Veterans, including primary care, specialty care, tertiary care, and long-term care. They have six (6) facilities in the Gainesville area and partner with the University of Florida to serve as a teaching hospital. Sciens has been working with the VAMC for nearly 30 years.

Based in Orlando, Blue Cord is a certified Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business firm that has been providing professional design-build, general construction and construction management services throughout Florida since 2009. With projects spanning from healthcare and education to the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs, its team of dedicated professionals is responsible for the design, construction, and additions to some of the most active and essential facilities in the southeast. Sciens has worked with Blue Cord since 2015 and completed approximately 12 projects together. Expected future work includes fire sprinkler projects for the Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida.
Project Requirements
The VAMC needed its fire sprinkler system brought up to code. The systems were not compliant and so we renovated the entire system. One of the customer’s requirements was to adhere to the guidelines of the Buy American Act.
Sciens Scope
We designed, installed and commissioned a code-compliant fire sprinkler solution for the entire facility, working closely with the end user and the local fire marshal to ensure the new system provided the required level of fire protection and safety for building occupants. With over 4,500+ sprinkler heads this complex system delivers the type of comprehensive coverage a medical facility such as VAMC needs to focus on its mission of treating our veterans.

Our expertise ensured that VAMC received the most current fire sprinkler system designed to meet the most stringent regulations and ensuring that operations at the facility can continue unhindered. This installation provides the peace of mind that the right level of response will occur in the event of a fire, helping keep building occupants safe.
